how much range do you actually need?

It turns out that the Livewires range is getting better than initial reports from Harley suggested and as the model years go on I expect it to rise. As it stands the Livewire gets up to 130 miles of range. During an average day i travel about 20-30 miles and 60-100 on weekends as my plans change, sometimes more.
How much are you guys actually planning to use? If different battery options happen in the future, odds are the cheaper will be for me, I can dial back on weekends.

While the range is useable for shorter inner-city commutes, you have to consider where the expectations are given the fuel economy of petrol bikes. Why spend double the money on a new electric that can't go half as far? The technology is still new, so it should improve with each new generation.

The same reason that anyone buys into brand new technology, to be a pioneer. At least with EV's, its not just a status symbol either as there is an environmental impact as well. Reducing emissions and noise pollution is a good a reason as any.

I bet better numbers will be part of that because hearing x vehicle can do more mileage than the rest creates yet another powerful buying point. at that stage its just one brand trying to beat another rather than a move directly for consumers.

There is nothing that the Livewire really does better than its electric competitors, so its more just a badge preference thing. If anything you are buying into the platform, which will improve over time. Many of the other electric bikes on the market have been around for years.

That essentially what it comes down to which can very well make or break a product. Harley has distribution channels that many can only dream of.
In recent years they expanded into other markets. Apparently India and some Asian markets turned out to be hot.

We've already seen from concepts that Harley is exploring brand new segments of bikes aside from electric and that's their best way forward. New models, new demographics and new markets.

Partnerships and joint ventures are something I expect to see from them as well. Not sure if they are building the battery packs for the Livewire in house or if they have secured a deal with an established manufacturer.

I will be on the look out for what Ducati does. They're starting small, very small but the possibilities are endless given their scale.

So far here's where they're at.
