Bike won't charge, new icon displayed on screen

I rode the bike to work yesterday with about 22 miles range remaining. I noticed on my way that a new icon popped up on the screen that I hadn't seen before (see pic, it's the amber rectangular-ish icon to the right of the bar and shield), but the bike ran fine so I continued. When I arrived at work, I was concerned I wouldn't quite have enough range to get home, so I plugged it in to a wall outlet all day to charge while I was out of town (about 11.5 hours). When I returned the bike had gone from 10% down to 3% because the coolant pump had been running the whole time but the battery had not charged at all. The icon was still there. I borrowed a company vehicle and went home, hoping it was just a glitch that would resolve itself this morning when I cycled power. However, I still have the same problem and now I don't have enough charge to ride it anywhere. The dealer is booked until mid-September. :(

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

I have now been without my bike for two and a half months, with the exception of one week that I had it back. Initially, I was told the delay was due to the dealer getting slammed by requests for service leading up to Biketoberfest in Daytona (why doesn’t warranty work take precedence?). They finally replaced the small battery and charged it on the fast charger at the dealership. I took it home and rode it until the charge ran out. When I plugged it into my wall charger (same one I’ve always used), it was doing the same thing as I originally saw: Bike wouldn’t charge and the fault codes showed the OBC was not responding. When I called the dealer, they were in disbelief. I finally convinced them to come get it and try again. That was three weeks ago.

When I spoke to the service manager this morning, he said that they don’t know what’s wrong. It will only charge with the fast charger. H-D keeps having them try different things, but nothing works. I feel like screaming, “Just replace the damn on-board charger!”, but of course they won’t until they believe that’s the solution. Now that the nice fall weather is here, this is even more infuriating. :(

Have you ever tried charging it with another level 1 or level 2 charger?
Did this get resolved? What was the solution?
Living in a northern climate I've struggled with the 12v battery maintaining a charge over the winter. I usually try to ride the bike once a month when weather permits to avoid the low 12v warning. This week I rode only about 10 miles since it was only 32-34 degrees but when I returned I got the low 12v warning. I understand lithium batteries either don't charge below 32F or it isn't recommended so maybe by riding it I drained the 12v battery rather than charging it like I hoped. I plugged the charger in thinking it might add some charge to the 12v as well but unplugged it at the recommended 70% for storage. It was the first time I ever switched the bike off that the display remained on. I cycled it on/off a couple times which has worked often for me when I encounter errors and the cooling pump remained on once as well. After a third on/off cycle everything powered down. I recall more than once seeing warnings against connecting a charger or tender to the 12v battery while connected to the bike so rather than have the anxiety of whether I would have a no start situation in the spring I removed the battery and placed it indoors on a tender (I followed the procedure in the service manual). Since my EV cars have no trouble charging in the winter I assume they have something built in for managing the battery temp that HD may or may not have on the RESS but the 12v battery is vulnerable to the cold. Perhaps if HD had installed a 12v battery with more than 2ah it would survive better over the winter. I keep reading about other owners issues with the 12v battery and OBC here in the forum and like everyone else would love it if HDMC monitored the forums and provided some sort of response. Eventually I may make the 500 mile trip to/from the closest dealer but I'm hoping to just keep riding it as long as the bike keeps allowing it...

My battery temp comes up quite warm even in 40 degree weather. Easily over 50 degrees on short trips.

I put my hand on the battery case and it had warmed slightly however the warming of the RESS may not have resulted in warming the12v battery. I don't regret getting a LiveWire in the least. I watched Long Way Up prior to my purchase and was aware of the cold weather challenges. When the 12v battery does fail I'll try to find a replacement that fits the compartment but possibly with great storage capacity.
