I've been looking around for an electric motorcycle but there really haven't been that many interesting options that I've found so far. The Livewire is pretty cool looking though, and its a Harley!

I hope they bring this test ride tour to Canda so that I can test it out and see the Livewire in person.

What are you looking for in an electric bike?
Are you only interested in an electric cruiser or would you ever consider going for an electric sport bike?

Welcome!

TBH there aren't too many options out there right now so I am just exploring what is out there regardless of style. As long as its comfortable and has a good range I'll be happy with it. I don't think there are enough options yet to be picky about style of motorcycle.

Hi Hawkman, where have you looked so far, and what do you find interesting? Zero Motorcycles has electric motorcycles you can by right now instead of waiting for Harley's prototype to become a real product. They have dealers in Canada that you can find at http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/locator/. Lito Green Motion has just released their Sora model and is headquartered in Quebec: http://www.litogreenmotion.com/find-dealer#/dealers.

I've heard of Zero motorcycles before. They seem to be pretty good at what they do. Unless you really really want a Harley, Zero probably gives you ample choices.

I did know about some of the other brands of electric bikes but I am going to need to save up some money anyhow before I can actually purchase something, and I really like Harley, so I figured that I might wait for this. Either way I'm probably not looking to buy until sometime next year.

How far out from now are you looking to buy one?

Electric motorcycles available at retail now

Do you guys have any recommendations for other bikes to look at?

Zero you already know about:
http://www.zeromotorcycles.com

Brammo is having a kick-ass sale (all products US $14K or less) now through the end of the month:
http://www.brammo.com/us-incentives/

BMW makes electric scooters that are sold in Europe but not available in North America:
http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/review-2014-bmw-c-evolution-electric---when-lightning-speaks.htm

Other than the two brands above, you'll have trouble finding anything that are in stock at dealerships in the United States and ready to ride home.

Brutus Electric Motorcycles start at US $19.9K:
http://brutusmotorcycle.com/

The Lito Sora *starts* at US $49K:
http://www.litogreenmotion.com/

Mission Motors have recently *changed* their mission and now only make motorcycles as technology demonstrators, not retail products for the masses:

I couldn't wait for the Brutus V9 electric cruiser to come down in price, and I wanted to experience an electric motorcycle with a gearbox, so I ended up getting a Brammo Empulse R. Find a local Zero and Brammo dealership and test ride each one. Don't go in thinking "this is the last bike I'll ever buy, so it had better be the best". Go in thinking "this is a step in the right direction. I can either continue spewing smelly exhaust fumes from my gasoline bike forever waiting for the perfect e-bike, or I can get one now and trade it in for an even better one later."

I'm surprised that more of the major bike manufacturers don't try their hand at electric bikes. THey must get into the game eventually. I can't see them allowing other electric bike brands to be the only ones making them.

That's just factoring in what makes it out to the public, for all we know some brands could already be within years into the process ;) Don't Forget that!
