Disable on board cell modem

Curious if anyone has investigated this?

Also what does it send up?

Where does hd lw keep the data?

This might be worth a support call.

Better question would be how can I piggy back off this cell connection to turn my bike into a WiFi hotspot :) Without any googling I would guess that it uses the cell connection to send data to the app through the Harley cloud like charging status Security Status, Tamper Notifications etc. This is all new to me though so I could be wrong. My Ford Maverick has it too and it works great I can remote start the truck from anywhere and remote lock/unlock it see how much fuel is in it and tire pressures etc all through the free Ford App.
I think this is not the same idea. Likely this is a very low end cell modem and likely didn't have a WiFi chip. And it would lead hd block it. This would violate hd security. What I am proposing is simply it is my bike. Where it is and what I am doing with it isn't your business. Now I am not sure I would turn it off as it is useful. But it should be an option.

The follow on question is how much will hd charge me for it someday.
I totally want to do this, but instead of disabling it, I want to wrap the telecom hardware in a Faraday bag so I can remove it when I want to ... say on long rides to places I'm unfamiliar with in case it "walks off." 😒

if they start charging, I won't use the connectivity options. I'm not paying another subscription fee.

I think to pay the app would need to get much better. I mean I am pretty sure a sophisticated theft could defeat the tracking. And dumb theft probably can't defeat the alarm. I suppose there is the case where they lift my key from me or the signal from it if that is possible. It would be good to see a description of what data they collect and how do the store it. Location, duration, and power usage for a given ride would probably be enough to give quite a lot more info then I would prefer HD hold. I wouldn't mind the mining it if they documented how they protect it but HD/LW doesn't seem that savy yet.

From what I have seen on youtube and please correct me if I'm wrong, the H-D Connect service used to be a paid subscription service a couple years ago and was available on a number of different ICE bikes as well as the ELW. They have since canceled the service for the ICE bikes but left it free for LiveWire owners so they have a means to find charging stations monitor charging etc.

Haven’t used it on my FLHXS since summer but AFAIK it’s still working; I can see my Street Glide in the app and plot routes and upload them to the bike via the app. DK what else I should be able to do that might have been lost though.
