Hi there! I recently traded in my old HD FXDF Fat Bob (2008) with a HD Live Wire - it was the dealerships demo model and I am very satisfied with the bike as such. However, I cannot get it to pair with my new Iphone. I had an old Iphone 6 when I got the bike, and to that phone I paired the bike without any problems. But after upgrading to an Iphone 13 it seems impossible. I tried to follow the steps others here on this site have done with getting their Iphone 12 paired. That worked at first, but when I then reinstalled all the apps etc. it again was unable to pair up. I have also attached a USB-C cable to the bike in the hopes of getting the phone to connect with the on-board computer so that i can conrol music etc. from the handlebar. So far without any sucess at all. It doesen´t even register that the phone is being hooked up. So I wonder, what am I doing wrong and what should I do? I have now a long arctic winter up here in the north of Norway to prepare myself for next years riding season, and hopefully I can get this resolved before then! I hope you might be able to help out there!

Make sure that the H-D Connect app isn't running when you first pair the iPhone. This sounds like the known problems with the iPhone 12, and we've made a whole thread on that. I still have problems pairing, but I've found a way to get it going if it doesn't pair right away. All of our experiences are over on that thread.

Hi

Since the release of the iphoneX there has been a lot of issues with the their Bluetooth stack. The livewire and many other devices are having issues. I was able to get my iPX and ipXII to work on the bike using this app from the app store

Give it a try and let us know.

Looking forward to trying! I've never consistently had my Livewire on Bluetooth. I don't listen to music or take calls when riding (in fact, phone goes into "driving focus" mode). BUT, I would like to get the GPS working. That's the only reason I have my phone mounted to my handlebar. Would be nice if it could go in my pocket and only have one screen to glance at. I'll update you when I have time to try.

This may not apply directly to the original post, but its related. I have an iPhone 11 pro, originally no problem for months connecting to the Livewire over Bluetooth. As I added other devices in the stack of blue tooth connections - bike related or not, I found growing difficulty with the Livewire and phone discovering/connecting. I recently erased the original Livewire-phone connection and reconnected it from scratch - making sure also that the Livewire connection is the priority in the phones stack of Bluetooth devices. I have had no problems in a month of use since doing that. The phone is connected to a wireless Sena headset, Wireless Sena Controller, Garmin bike radar and an apple watch all at once now with no problems (crossing fingers it stays that way). Livewire handgrip controller for music and volume works fine too. Phone is mounted on the handlebar.

A Garmin bike radar? Interesting. That's a pretty cool idea especially given rear visibility with stock mirrors on the Livewire. I have mine upside down, but there's clearly a cost to looking down that far. If H-D/Livewire was looking for a new technology to include, it would be a rear sensing radar feeding the main screen. That would make up for the mirrors. Smart idea!

I have the Rizoma mirrors and made a custom extender that puts them up and out further. I mounted the bike radar on the carbon fiber passenger seat cover with a custom bracket I designed and 3D Printed. It works great for that extra bit of confidence - especially on LA freeways and highways. For your reference here is a link to the Garmin unit: Garmin Varia™ RVR315 | Rearview Bike Radar

I have the rizoma mirrors and I still have a hard time looking behind me.

I'm back and forth about the mirrors, regarding if I should change them. I'm on Cape Cod. A few people drive fast, but this is mostly a sleepy little sandbar. Cool twisty roads (gotta watch for manhole covers), but nothing here even remotely resembles LA's freeways. Would you have time sometime to take a few pictures of your mirror configuration? If time allows.

I still have to try the app dcar70 recommended to try to connect. But I'll try your approach too. I should have time Sunday.

Regardless, I like the idea of the rear radar. Initially, I though it was a speed radar detector. I probably need that more.

Thanks Frank!

I will take some shots of the bike for you no problem including the radar mount, mirrors etc. All off the shelf but modified mostly to accommodate the threads/diameter of various bolts/nuts etc. I have no problem viewing the rear now.

Hey Diego,
Thanks so much for your tip. It worked smoothly. I downloaded the app, and then ran it on my phone when standing next to my bike, and immediately I was connected, just like that! A great tip and a great app. So thank you so much again!

How exactly did you "make sure that the Livewire connection is the priority in the phone's stack of bluetooth devices"?

The radar is very cool - a glance down to my phone and I can see whats approaching at more than 5mph or greater than 10mph. Just a bit more awareness especially on the freeway etc. I have great mirrors now but still the heads up on fast approaching cars or bikes from the rear is helpful. I made a custom plastic bracket that mounts to the carbon fiber rear seat cover.

I went into the Bluetooth manager and selected to forget the livewire (HD...) paring/connection. Then I reconnected it /paired again and it was located at the top of the stack. It worked much better for a long time. I found over a few weeks it wandered down a few steps again on the list and the pairing was not as quick - but still worked. I will go through this process again. I don't know if this is hard science but it worked.
I do not believe there is a way to make the livewire connection a priority on the iPhone Bluetooth stack but I am looking into it.

I also found that its best to start the bike and let it pair with the phone first. then connect your helmet (if it is Bluetooth) and in my case also rear facing radar connection. The sequence makes a difference but can be a pain when you are riding with a group using an intercom and have all these other connections.

So for me, its 1. Phone to bike. 2. Phone to helmet Sena headset, 3. phone to radar, 4. helmet to helmet Sena remote. I also have and apple watch so that's already connected to the phone.

Here are two shots of the bike radar unit and my custom mount bracket. The Garmin readout fills the screen of my phone mounted on the handlebars.
