I posted in another thread I might have a charging issue. When I plugged in either my L2 or L1 charger after coming back from a ride, it didn't start charging. Additionally, I got the triangle with the exclamation mark in it. A note on the screen said contact service. It also said it was starting up and a circular prompt was on the left side of the screen where it would normally show the remaining charge time while it was hooked to the charger.

I tried turning the bike on and off and nothing seemed to impact the ability to start charging. I rolled it out of the garage and it would start and take off but I didn't want to run my charge level down too low that I couldn't ride it.

At this time saw a low battery warning for my key fob. I thought it unlikely that might be related to the issue but I didn't want to get stranded out anywhere if it were to die. So I rolled the bike in the garage and went to buy a replacement battery. When I went back to the bike, it was dead as a doornail. Absolutely, and utterly unresponsive.

No lights on the dash, nothing when I plug in the charger, no hazard lights, etc. Maybe a main fuse/breaker blew but that doesn't explain any of the other issues I was having. Does anyone know where the main fuse/breaker is located?

The bike has been flawless up to no other than the display issue where it is delaminating. That just looks weird like an air bubble under your screen protector that just grows and grows but the display still works fine.

Fuses are located on the right side under the tank, 5 o'clock from the EVSE inlet. Sounds like the 12v is dead, you can remove it and hit the 'health' button, which will illuminate a blue indicator on the level of health it has. Keep in mind that when the bike throws certain codes, it will lock the bike down, giving you the triangle 'call service' warning.

My advice to resolve this is:

Check the 12v battery and put it on a tender, sooner rather than later depending on your RESS SoC (30-70% is okay). If a freshly charged 12v brings it back to life, hold down the ODO switch when powering on, then clear your errors. That should get the bike back to operation.

I would suggest not clearing the trouble codes if the bike is going in for service, so the shop can see the history.

And, if the OBC dies, the 12vdc will frequently draw down/die too. The bike throws a.myriad of codes then. On a warranty repair for the OBC, Livewire generally has the 12vdc replaced also if there is any question about it.

My suspicions are that the 12v battery died, which would throw up a bunch of codes. It happened to me over the summer, put the 12v on a tender, brought everything back to life. Cleared the codes and still going strong

It is at the dealer getting checked out. I'll update when I know more. Even if it is resolved soon, I have a medical issue and won't be able to ride for a few months at the earliest.

Thanks. I didn't have a chance to try the charger which is very annoying for me. It came in 2 shipments and I didn't have all the pieces I needed to make it work. Not to mention with the bike not powering on, hard to tell if the charger would be working properly or not. Then I had to have surgery to fix the issue and it all just a cluster right now.

Please let us know what the issue ends up being. I am presently on the fence about taking the extended warranty and would like to hear about issues that people are having.

Good luck. I hope it is in fact just a dead 12v little battery issue and nothing major.

You happened to post at the right time. I just heard back from the dealer. Before I get into the outcome of that, I say get the extended warranty but shop around if there is any flexibility in Toronto like in the US on service contracts. If you have to replace the onboard charger would likely pay for the entire warranty.

Fortunately for me, the primary cause was the 12v battery. There were some other minor things and my bubbling display was replaced again (2nd time). They mentioned some other things but TBH, I am still convalescing from my surgery and not as coherent as I'd like to be due to the pain. He rattled off things pretty rapidly and the main thing I was thinking was how much was this going to cost when he was done.

Fortunately, it was all covered under warranty, even the 12v battery. I'll need a friend to pick up the bike and ride it home as it will be months before I ride again. He said they had washed and cleaned it up and it was ready whenever somebody could pick it up. All in all a very positive service experience. When I see the final service invoice, I'll post what else was done on it if they list it.

I can't tell you how bad I want to get out and ride it. I was riding my Multistrada a lot after it died. While I love the Multia and it is clearly quicker above 80 mph, the LW is just such a blast to ride in the normal speed ranges I ride that I really missed it. OTOH, the Multi has so much better suspension, comfort (but I have a good Corbin that is broken in) with a better seat/peg relationship. I still love that v-twin sound too.

I have been hounding the dealership to give me something in writing about what is exactly covered under the 5 year RESS warranty. I think the charging unit is part of that but want to make sure.

The extended warranty is very expensive at around $1000 Canadian per year plus 13%tax. That is a lot of money to dish out betting on something to go wrong in order to get your money's worth. 😩😩😩

I should hear more next week.

Wow, that is a lot for the extended warranty. I think I paid $2400 for 7 years and unlimited miles that was from the in service data. So basically 5 extra years after the bike was out of the factory warranty.

My original dealer said it was good I bought the warranty as the OBC was NOT part of the RESS. I asked this question when I had read about OBC failures before I bought my bike.
