OBC Software Update for increased DC Charger Compatibility

863 Views 18 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Phaedrus
Livewire recently issued a software update for the LW1 OBC, to improve Level 3 (DC Fast Charger) compatibility with a wider range of charging networks. It should help with compatibility problems that some riders have seen while trying to Level 3 charge. I do not know exactly which networks they fixed - but the update should improve fast charging options. It will take a service appt with a dealer to have the update installed.

I don't know if a corresponding OBC software update for ELW has been issued.

My bike gets updated next week.
Also, there is supposed to be a major Livewire app update coming out soon for the LW1. It is supposed to have functionality improvements. We will see how soon it hits the street. Again, I don't know if HD will release a comparable app update for the ELW.

Can someone tell me how long it took the service department to do the update?
Maybe 45 min, including admin time to do paperwork for warranty billing.
Thanks, man!
No worries. Of course, then I sat for almost an hour to fully DC recharge it, so I could finish my ride. 🙂

So, I just brought my ELW to Miami Gardens Harley. Not sure if I’m out of warranty but they did 4 updates for free. They were, I believe, 2.10.4.2 Control Board, 7.0.44.2 Power Board, 0.94.35.2 Charger and a 4th which I didn’t record. They gave it free because it took exactly 4 hours. They bricked the bike and said it was because my lithium 12v was uncharged and running under 3 volts. And whenever they tried flashing a module, it would stop and crash. They were on the phone with Harley for hours. They made me whole, so I can’t complain. But it wasn’t a frictionless firmware upgrade. Also while waiting, an LW1 rolled in for some brake service after the bike was dropped. I was amazed to run into another LW owner in Miami.
The service tech is supposed to put the 12v battery on a charger during software updates, so they don't draw it down and do what they did!
