Thank you, @BlueStudios for the comprehensive response about you windshield! Like @tcypher, I'm also interested in the impact of the windshield on range. I suspect the range would improve, but would like to see the improvement numbers. If nothing else, not having your jacket act like a parachute has got to help. Thanks again!
The impact on range is negligible. In my case I added a GIVI air flow 2 from a BMW GS with some custom brackets, what I like about my setup is that I can slide or remove the windshield depending on the type or riding that I am doing.

Based on my experience using a wind sheild (i have used an air flow 2) for about 1yr on my bike the range is not increased in a notisable way. Now rider fatigue if greatly reduced. Specially in long range rides.
