This is not a confortable location to work .. but the menu is to install this cable delivred with the charger,Rubber protection on the wire, connected to the battery + -, I've no alarm in the battery box, I ve use this rectangle fence for the cable out put throught the cover, ( no cover modif, no place along the original big cable) a loop down to avoid water entrance and cable up with few clips or rubber to stay in place.

This is very common to have such comment on vehicule manuals, (charging a battery means a bad conception). So no trouble to use a charge for 12V if you are not riding frequently ,with specif for Li-ion battery charger in that case. I thing also the smartphone apps to ask for the LW status is also consuming power even power off.
I m doing the same with my BMW RT with a pb charger because short trip in winter and seat+ hands heating systeme.
With the battery plug it's also easy with a voltmeter to mesure the 12V value.

Eric,

How long have you been using your charger? Do you only hook it up occasionally or is it hooked up most of the time?

John
for the moment 2 times per months without riding, anyway the charger Optimate Lithium LFP 4S 0.8 Amp is stopping automaticaly the charge when ok and switching to survey cycles mode.
Now I'm riding approx 80 km/week, today 13,11 V so ok. My pronostic is one time per month. I will survey the voltage if I note a decrease before pluging the charger.
I prefer to play like this rather then risking a definitive stop due to this small batt.

After this lesson learn I will perhaps adapt = 1 charge per month without riding and No charge if approx 250km per month.

Eric

Thanks for the post, interesting to know witch part they will change to fixe the problem. On my side, no 12V trouble, neither 12V specific charging durring this Summer+Automn. Voltage check today at 13V.
But after having reading your topic Il will operate a "prevent" 12V charging. bye.

Hello Dave, no info from HD to add this direct acces for plugging a 12V battery maintenance charger. The logic usage is to never plug the main charger and my 12V charger at the same time .Only one 12V charge after this 3 months berfore riding. Never had 12V problem on my bike, it' s just a preventiv action after having reading all the 12V topics on the forum.
