I think I read somewhere on here it was a direct bolt on. I am thinking about that too. I saw some creative ways to fit it as well. Someone makes a plug. I also saw someone cover the hole with a clear plastic sheet and then put a HD decal in the middle. Looked far better than I thought it might.

yes, this topic already on the forum, I've build my own epoxy -carbon cover.

 

I have looked on the forums and can't find this topic about a direct swap. I called Harley -Davidson and left a message asking for clarification about the parts being interchangeable. If or when I hear back I will post the reply.

The two things I don’t like on my HD LW is the hole in the rear fender and the stupid mirrors.

I realize that by law they have to have mirrors on the bikes, but at least put some on that you can actually use to see more than just your arms.

Presently I have mine upside down in order to make them usable.

I used to have mine upside down, until I found these on eBay. They are just what I needed. Mirror Stem Extenders for Harley Davidson Iron 1200 XL1200NS 2018-2019 Motor | eBay

 

I used the $15 mirror extenders and I am happy with being able to see behind me nicely. Also keeps the mirrors closer to my line of sight rather than looking down any more than necessary.

I never planned on riding in the rain with the LW but so many people water their lawns excessively, a lot of the intersections I have to cross are wet with pretty deep water. As a result, I am getting a lot more crap from the hole in the fender than I originally thought I might have to deal with. So whenever winter finally gets here, I'll be doing something with the rear fender.

I contacted HD as well as the Livewire One companies and asked about the Livewire One Rear Fender being a drop in part.

I was advised that they are and also available to purchase from the Livewire.com website.

The part number and price is:

Good to know the fender is a direct fit but I’m still curious if HD could explain why the hole is there in the first place. Possibly to reduce wind resistance?

As late as last week I asked at the Harley shop in London (UK not Canada) and the LiveWire one rear fender was not available to order, so your news is welcome.

That said, my original LiveWire has an Original Eric (TM) rear fender blank which keeps me dry and is carbon fibre so it fits with the other bits. There is also a plain blank for sale on eBay which looks like a nice job - not as stylish as Eric's - and sticks quickly with self-adhesive strips.

 

You want wheels/tires enclosed as much as possible to reduce aerodynamic drag. Most likely a styling decision to show off their rear tire or some equally stupid idea.

A silly question but has anyone tried to order a Livewire One Rear Fender and put it on the Harley Livewire to get rid of the hole in the back section.

I would love to swap mine out in case I get stuck on wet roads. I don’t want my clothing getting all the road crap on it.

If it is a direct fit (no modifications) where do I get one being in Canada

I did it in May and it was an absolute no-brainer! See my earlier posts in another thread here: Rear hugger cut out - any one found an off the shelf...

$255.20 US for the fender (with my MVP discount and no sales/VAT tax since New Hampshire) and honestly not more than 15 minutes of "labor" (most of that time spent finding the right torx wrench and cleaning things up.

 

Yeah I am running two as well. Though I am running one under the lever mount to move the mirror around the wind screen.

You can see it here. The one that is mounted below the lever instead of above moves it out maybe as much as 3cm. Then there is another 3 cm riser. Riser seem to be of varying quality but this last setup and survived maybe 700 miles. Though the LWing has a very altered look it is highly functional. The fender business is ridicules. Though it does seem most people are nice weather riders. So perhaps a valid design choice. I wish the front handled the rain at slow speed a bit better. Don't really love the water in the face thing it does below 20.

 

a lot of message under the " rear hugger cut out" wording on this website. I've done my own carbon-epoxy part.

Fixed with a black glue under the fender.

I had an assignment in the US recently and bought one online from the HD LiveWire shop. Just got home yesterday and fitted it today, fits exactly and is a great improvement IMO over the holed original. That said, Eric's bespoke carbon fiber solution (seen in the other picture) is a real keeper for the backup LiveWire.

 

No I did not order one. I was told that you would have to order it from a harley dealership here in Canada

No worries....my bike is in the shop for first maintenance. I will inquire about ordering one.

Also something to note, not sure where you are but there's only the one technician qualified to work on LW at HD of Edmonton and none at Barnes HD (Edmonton). The servicing dept told me that Edmonton lost out to Calgary for eventually stocking the LW1, so I may have to go to Calgary for future servicing as they'll have more qualified technicians. Bit of a commute if this happens, but any excuse for a road trip works for me.
